THINGS TO DO
ON THE RANCH AND IN THE AREA
THINGS TO DO ON THE RANCH

Ranch Activities

FISHING
Bring your rod and enjoy quiet time at the river’s edge. Try your luck casting from the shore or wading in the slow-moving shallows. Whether you're experienced or brand new to fishing, the peaceful setting and occasional bites make it a relaxing way to start or end your day. Basic gear provided.

WILDLIFE
Watch exotic wildlife just beyond the cabin fence or take a mini-safari. Fallow deer, and Scimitar oryx often wander close to the lodging area—especially when food is placed in the nearby troughs. Axis and blackbuck antelope, and Ureal sheep are a bit more reclusive. Pere David's deer are often near water. While these animals are free-roaming and not pets, they offer unforgettable moments of observation and photo ops.

THE RIVER
Skip stones, hunt for treasures, or watch eagles soar above the Colorado. A short walk leads to ½ mile of private river frontage where you can explore nature’s details—rocky sandbars, unique shells, or birds like blue herons, g

HIKING TRAILS
Explore winding trails under a canopy of trees and along the riverbank. Our ranch trails range from gentle footpaths through the trees to wildlife-viewing routes along the bluff. You’ll find open space for walking, biking, exploring, and simply enjoying the rhythm of nature at your own pace.

AFTER DARK
When the sun sets, the real magic begins. Watch the Milky Way rise in a certified dark sky zone, toast marshmallows by the firepit, and listen for owls or coyotes in the distance. Fireflies often light up summer evenings, and ‘Smores are practically mandatory.

BOATING
Glide through calm waters with a paddle in hand. Guests can borrow our two-person paddle boat or launch their own kayak, canoe, or flat-bottomed boat to explore slow-moving stretches of the river. It's peaceful, photogenic, and a favorite with both couples and kids.

FAMILY TIME
Unplug and reconnect with the ones you love. Pack a picnic, go on a nature walk, or see who can find the coolest river rock. Kids (and grownups) love searching for deer antler sheds or spotting unusual birds and animal tracks. These are the memory-making moments guests rave about.
Area Attractions

STATE PARKS & NATURAL AREAS
From the waterfalls of Colorado Bend to the summit of Enchanted Rock, nearby parks offer unforgettable outdoor experiences. Try cave tours at Longhorn Caverns, a day on the water at Inks Lake, or wildflower walks in spring.

COUNTY SEATS
Charming historic towns anchor each surrounding county. From San Saba’s shaded courthouse square to Llano’s riverside shops, every county seat has its own character. Explore museums, murals, antique stores, and iconic town squares in Mills, Lampasas, Burnet, and beyond.

WINERIES
Sip and savor Texas Hill Country wines at local vineyards. Spend a lazy afternoon tasting award-winning varietals at Wedding Oak or Texas Legato, enjoy vineyard views at Perissos, or raise a glass with friends at Fiesta Winery. Each winery offers something a little different—bold reds, crisp whites, and plenty of hospitality.

COWBOY
HAPPENINGS
Get a taste of Texas tradition—boots, brisket, and bull riding. Ranch culture lives on in weekend rodeos, old-school cattle auctions, and fiercely competitive BBQ cook-offs. Events rotate seasonally, so there’s always something authentic (and smoky) to check out.

MUSEUMS
Step back in time at the San Saba Historical Museum, learn about country music legends in Lometa, or explore frontier life and local lore at the Lampasas and Goldthwaite museums. Great stops for curious minds and cooler afternoons.

GOOD EATS
From comfort food classics to mesquite-grilled meats, you’ll eat well out here. Enjoy a top-tier steak at Pecan House Grill, classic country breakfast at the Bluebonnet Café, or ribs at Cooper’s in Llano. Don’t miss Fisher Street’s seasonal menus or the family-friendly charm of Diggs.

MUSIC VENUES
Good tunes, cold drinks, and a little dancing under the stars. Catch live music at laid-back bars, family restaurants, and open-air dances. From Friday night fiddle to special guest shows, local venues serve up true Texas sounds in relaxed settings.
MEET YOUR HOSTS, JOHN & KAREN
We didn’t set out to run a guest ranch. After the loss of our daughter Andi, we came here seeking quiet, healing, and a reason to look forward to each new day. Being surrounded by the miracles of nature continually reminded us of God's goodness. Gradually the land restored us, and we created Red Bluff Guest Ranch in the hope it could do the same for others.
Whether you come to hike, paddle, watch wildlife, or simply sit still, we want your stay to be both effortless and meaningful. You’ll find thoughtful touches waiting — from firewood stacked by the hearth to homemade cinnamon rolls on your first morning.
You may arrive as strangers, but when you leave, we hope it feels like friends waving goodbye — until your next stay at Red Bluff.
