1. Inspiration for a Guest Ranch

The story of our adventure begins with our daughter Andi, who turned a battle with ovarian cancer into a journey of love and purpose. Andi fought heroically for seven and a half years, eventually calling cancer "my blessing" as it deepened her compassion and drive to make a difference

Wherever you are, whatever joy or challenge you face today, be glad in it. There will never again be a day just like this one. Happy Thursday, amazing friends! Carpe diem.  Andi Sloan  09/26/2013

2. Discovering the Hill Country

Andi found solace in the Northern Hill Country midway through her cancer journey. As an Austin attorney and  executive director of Texas Advocacy Project (providing a wide range of services to domestic abuse victims), life was hectic. She began spending her weekends in the hill country hamlet of Lometa., embracing the tiny community and riding her beloved horse Heathen. One with her horse and Immersed in nature, she felt her worries fade and her spirit renew.

Convinced that the human sense of well being is rooted in nature, she began taking friends on hill country weekends and launched a vigorous campaign for John and me (her parents) to pull up roots in the city and buy a hill country ranch.  It took a while!

3. Creating a Legacy

In 2014, Andi's journey ended, but her dream lived on. That same year, we came to the ranch and found it was the perfect place to recover from our inexpressible sense of loss. Andi's experience and our own impelled our desire to turn the ranch into a haven for others seeking rejuvenation.

  • Our first retreat, Andi's Cabin, was lovingly built in 2017 as a tribute to Andi's spirit.

  • The Bungalow has been a longtime resident of the ranch--the stories it could tell!  It conveyed with other outbuildings and was given a major facelift in 2022.

Red Bluff Guest Ranch, now in its third year of operation,  offers guests a blend of adventure, relaxation, creature comforts, and--for some--a place for reflection and healing.

"Reminder to me:  There is no excuse for not living the life you dream. We all have tragedy. Don't lead with it. We all have obstacles. Use them, but don't let them become crutches. The sky's the limit, but you have to reach for it. Happy Wednesday, friends. Here's to being fearless!" ©

4. Carpe Diem - "Seize the Day"

"Carpe diem"" was Andi's daily battle cry. She never quit looking for ways to make a difference.  So her legacy goes beyond our ranch. Her story of resilience and community action continues to inspire many. To learn more, Google "Andrea Sloan Compassionate Use Austin" and discover the milestones she helped achieve.
